Artifacts by Alessandro Bavari and Sara Aliscioni, is a metaphysical meditation on identity, on the illusion of visibility as the sole form of existence, and on the fragile boundary between being and appearing. It is an aesthetic and visionary journey into the heart of a world where everything is born of light and, without the gaze of others, everything vanishes.
Within the rarefied black and white of a dreamlike diorama, surreal figures move: metallic beings, glossy masks, fragmented bodies, and artificial geometries. These are the Artefacts—hedonistic and narcissistic characters, without roots or memory, children of the present and of light. They materialize in a blaze of brilliance and exist only so long as they are seen, admired, desired. Their stage is a theater of appearances, where to exist is to be looked at. Fed by the eyes of others, by surface and vanity, these ephemeral beings possess no authentic self—only the reflected image that keeps them alive.
Alongside them move the Anonymous: dim beings, devoid of grace and meaning, without will or inner light. Finally, the Invisibles emerge—rare creatures who do not shine with reflected light but carry within themselves an authentic one: spectral shrouds, subtle traces of a soul that has felt and known compassion.
Sara Aliscioni’s text and Alessandro Bavari’s video construct a symbolic and archetypal universe, suspended between the sacred and the post-human, where everything unfolds in an eternal, timeless present. The entire narrative framework moves across a stage that recalls the rarefied solemnity of metaphysical painting, modernist currents, and the reflections on hyperreality and the simulacrum articulated by Jean Baudrillard, who argued that the sign precedes and produces the real rather than deriving from it, allowing reality to survive only as an effect of the image that stages it.

Artefatti di Alessandro Bavari e Sara Aliscioni, è una riflessione metafisica sull’identità, sull’illusione della visibilità come unica forma di esistenza, sul fragile confine tra essere e apparire. Un viaggio estetico e visionario nel cuore di un mondo dove tutto nasce dalla luce e senza lo sguardo altrui, tutto svanisce.
Nel bianco e nero rarefatto di un diorama onirico, si muovono figure surreali: esseri di metallo, maschere lucide, corpi frammentati e geometrie artificiali. Sono gli Artefatti, personaggi edonisti e narcisisti, senza radici né memoria, figli del presente e della luce. Si materializzano nel bagliore e vivono solo fintanto che sono visti, adulati, desiderati. Il loro palcoscenico è un teatro dell’apparenza, dove esistere coincide con l’essere guardati. Nutriti dagli occhi degli altri, dalla superficie e dalla vanità, questi esseri effimeri non possiedono un sé autentico ma solo l’immagine riflessa che li tiene in vita.
Accanto a loro si muovono gli Anonimi: esseri spenti, privi di grazia e significato, senza volontà né luce propria. Emergono infine gli Invisibili: creature rare che non brillano di luce riflessa ma portano dentro di sé una luce autentica, sindoni spettrali, tracce sottili di un’anima che ha sentito e provato pietà.
Il testo di Sara Aliscioni e il video di Alessandro Bavari costruiscono un universo simbolico e archetipico, sospeso tra il sacro e il post-umano, dove tutto avviene in un eterno presente senza tempo. L’intero impianto narrativo si muove su un palcoscenico che ricorda la solennità rarefatta della pittura metafisica, la corrente modernista e le riflessioni sulla iperrealtà del simulacro di Jean Baudrillard il quale sosteneva che il segno precede e produce il reale piuttosto che derivarne, facendolo sopravvivere come effetto dell’immagine che lo mette in scena.
