THE ELECTRIC SAINT

On January 20, 288 A.D., San Sebastian was scourged to death after being persecuted by the emperor Diocletian who tied him naked to a pole to be then pierced by multiple arrows. With San Sebastiano, Alessandro Bavari introduces to the Crypto Art public the works inspired by the hagiographies of the holy martyrs in a personal, visionary and faithful way to his stylistic calligraphy.
The Saint is linked to a pyramid of cubes, recurring elements in different works by the artist such as the now famous Metachaos and the NFT work exhibited at the Permanent Museum in Milan The taser macro-orgasmic dominium sense, which replace the trunk of tree or the Roman column used in classical iconography.
The halo is replaced by an electric circle that wraps the head while dazzling lightning bolts are infused on the chest of the white figure, in a classical plastic pose, illuminating the naked and new Saint Sebastian.

The original musical piece composed by Mauro Di Martino is the soundtrack, which combines deep and mystical sounds of strings with modified tunings, of the tammorra drum together with other classical musical instruments. The musical motif, repeated in a loop that recalls that of ancient medieval dirges, insinuates itself into the minds in an obsessive and dreamlike way, almost with the intent of hypnotizing its listener.

Using a metaphorical structure and a techno(theo)logical approach, Alessandro Bavari places the Saint Sebastian in an indefinite space-time dimension that transcends reality to the point of becoming metaphysical.

META-CELESTIAL SAINTS
A Critical Text and Introduction by Sara Aliscioni

The unedited narrative video series, Meta-Celestial Saints, a new iconographic vision in the era of Crypto Art, revolutionizes the classic representation schemes of the holy martyrs, although strongly influenced by them.
Among the characterizing elements of the individual videos that make up the series we find an unusual depiction of the halo, or nimbus, or the figurative attribute used in sacred art in different forms to identify the saint.

The circle of light, a symbol of perfection that surrounds the martyr's head, is the most frequently used form, but not the only one. There have been many interpretations of the light given by God to men and not only saints. Originally these were depicted with laurel wreaths, as were the emperors in the Byzantine era.
Together with the round halo, various emblems have been adopted: the radial one to indicate the blessed, the triangular one to symbolize the Trinity, the twelve stars to represent the Virgin Mary and the square to represent men and women still alive and close to the perfection of the saints.

Victims of the atonement, sacrificed on the altars, responsible for collective sins, even if innocent, the new Meta-Celestial Saints  become absolute protagonists.
In the present day, the holy martyr becomes the symbol of the scapegoat as man is today in the different social scenarios in which he is accused, isolated, punished and scourged.
